Feds Support North Bay Water Upgrades

Posted on August 29, 2008

Tony Clement, minister responsible for infrastructure programming in Ontario, today announced the federal government will consider the upgrading of the North Bay water distribution system as a priority for up to $1,766,666 in federal infrastructure funding, up to one-third of total eligible costs.

This project involves watermain upgrades (including all modifications required to connect the new facilities to the existing grid), construction of a new pumping station and standpipe, conversion of the current pumping station to a valve chamber and repairs to the existing storage facility for interim use. The project will help to provide a stable water supply, equalize system pressure, and supply fire protection.

Funding for this project comes from the $200 million, announced in March 2007, to top up the Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF) nationwide.
