Montreal’s Maurice Richard Arena is to get a $5.2-million facelift starting in March and then be temporarily dedicated to short-track speed skaters training for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, reports Montreal’s Gazette.

The 47-year-old, 6,600-seat arena is to have its water treatment system upgraded, along with new refrigeration and heating systems.

Funding for the work is to be split among the Quebec government ($2.6 million), the city of Montreal ($2.1 million) and Speed Skating Canada ($500,000).
