McBride, British Columbia’s Eco-Sensitive Solution to Wastewater Treatment project officially unveiled its $2-million second phase yesterday.
Phase 2 will add an additional month of retention and capacity to the system with a third treatment/storage cell. A constructed effluent wetland will increase the retention by three months and a flood-irrigated woodlot will add wildlife habitat while absorbing effluent, eliminating direct discharge to the Fraser River.
The Province and federal government are jointly providing up to $1.38 million in funding for the project from the Building Canada Fund – Communities Component. The Village of McBride is investing over $690,000. This builds on joint federal-provincial funding of over $1 million from the Building Canada Fund for Phase 1 of the project, which is currently under construction.
