December 8, 2010: Protecting the Public Interest in Water: Public Trust Doctrine |
|
Webinar Speakers This webinar will examine the legal concept known as the Public Trust Doctrine. The Public Trust Doctrine is a concept that seeks to provide the public with a mechanism to protect ecological values, ensure water for future needs, and protect public uses and interests. It is in widespread use in the U.S. but has yet to emerge in a meaningful way in Canada. The speakers will outline the opportunity to inject the Public Trust Doctrine into BC water law by highlighting the foundational aspects required in any legal framework, and showing how this could be incorporated in BC. Presented by POLIS Project on Ecological Governance in partnership with Canadian Water Network, Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, Walter and Duncan Gordon Foundation, Water Canada. |
