IDE Technologies of Israel, and Canadian company Clean Harbors have announced a joint research and development strategy to increase the availability of mechanical vapor compression (MVC) evaporators in the Alberta oil sands. The evaporators are used to treat water produced by oil sands operations.
“Treatment of Alberta’s oil sands produced water is challenging because of the high scaling and fouling potential, as well as occasional process excursions,” said Clean Harbors’ senior VP of Canadian industrial services, Chris Porter. “MVC evaporators are a critical step in the water treatment process as they provide boiler feed water quality. We believe we can deliver the ideal solution to the marketplace through IDE’s experience providing MVC evaporators for produced water treatment over the past two decades and our expertise in the field of industrial chemical cleaning and ultrasonic technology.”
IDE Technologies uses a horizontal falling film evaporation technology which they say provides a reliable, energy-efficient, and cost-effective gravity drainage produced water treatment solution.
