Charlottetown will receive federal and provincial funding to move forward with its Miltonvale Wellfield project, which will provide the city with an additional drinking water supply. Funding was announced January 12 by Minister of Fisheries and Oceans Gail Shea, PEI Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Minister Robert Vessey, and Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee.
“We are pleased to see the Miltonvale Wellfield project move forward with funding for phase two of three,” said Mayor Lee. “The construction of the control building and piping from the wellhead to the control building is an important step in providing increased service reliability and additional distribution capacity for Charlottetown’s water supply.”
Canada and Prince Edward Island will each contribute $355,253 to the project, with Charlottetown providing the remaining $593,320, for a total project cost of just over $1.3 million.
“The Government of Prince Edward Island is pleased to make this investment…in this phase of Charlottetown’s new water supply,” Minister Vessey said. “This has been a longstanding priority for residents and we are happy to help make it a reality.”
