The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador announced on December 23 that its Department of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs is currently a funding partner for around 700 municipal projects in the province, including three key water projects.
“We are cognizant of the demand for infrastructure throughout the province and recognize that it cannot all be addressed overnight,” said Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs, Keith Hutchings. “However, we have been making progress in addressing communities’ infrastructure needs through our municipal capital works programs, with key priority areas including improving drinking water and wastewater systems and recreational infrastructure.”
Among the many municipal projects underway or recently completed in Newfoundland is the new Corner Brook water treatment plant, which is expected to be up and running in 2015; a new wastewater treatment plant in Bishop’s Falls; and upgrades to Cronin’s Head sewer treatment plant in Kelligrews.
