The final phase of start-up of the City of Corner Brook, Newfoundland’s new water treatment plant occurred on February 12, according to a release from the city. The new plant will distribute treated water to Corner Brook and the nearby towns of Massey Drive and Mount Moriah.
The official commission of the new plant is a long time coming. Construction of the project began in fall 2012, and commissioning of all plant components has been ongoing for several months. Throughout the commissioning process, water going through the plant has been tested and confirmed to meet design parameters. Enhanced testing will continue through the plant’s initial start-up phases.
“On behalf of City Council, we would like to express our appreciation to all staff and industry professionals who worked to make this facility a reality,” read a City of Corner Brook release. “Water treatment is a significant milestone for the City of Corner Brook and will have numerous benefits such as enhanced public health, tourism, and future economic growth and development opportunities.”
