The Capital Regional District (CRD) Core Area Liquid Waste Management committee recommended that the CRD board approve the formation of a wastewater and resource recovery select committee for the Saanich, Victoria, and Oak Bay participants of the Core Area Liquid Waste Management Plan. The recommendation was announced on January 8.

The new select committee would allow the three municipalities to take a leading role in identifying their wastewater treatment options as part of a wider, regional solution.

The proposed creation of a new select committee would follow last November’s creation of the Westside Wastewater and Resource Recovery Select Committee, formed by the communities of Colwood, Esquimalt, Langford, View Royal, and the Songhees First Nation. This committee initiated the Westside Solutions Project, which engaged citizens to work collectively to identify solutions for wastewater treatment and resource recovery challenges unique to the region’s west side.
