The Anishinabe of Wauzhushk Onigum First Nation in northwestern Ontario will receive provincial and federal funding for drinking water and wastewater infrastructure improvements through the Small Communities Fund.

The project will ensure that residents continue to have access to safe, clean drinking water, and will include a number of updates to the local wastewater treatment system. Both the Government of Canada and Government of Ontario will contribute $278,780 to the project; Anishinabe of Wauzhushk Onigum will be responsible for the remaining costs.

“These improvements will ensure our community has access to clean and safe drinking water and will ensure that our waterways and watersheds are protected,” said Chief Chris Skead. “We are excited to continue our working relationship with both levels of government for the improvement and betterment of our community.”
