Ottawa-based BluMetric Environmental Inc. has signed a $1.03 million contract with a major global mining company to supply, install, commission, and provide operator training for a mining wastewater treatment system for a remote hematite mine site located in Northern Quebec.

BluMetric will provide the client with a multi-stage physical/chemical treatment system to sequentially remove antagonistic contaminants in a fully containerized, customized solution treating the mine-water.

The containerized system is well adapted to the area’s northern climate, with a plug-and-play and user-friendly configuration.

“This project comes out of our strategy of developing custom-tailored mine-water treatment systems for use in environments that are often compounded by extreme conditions and complex water chemistry,” said Byron O’Connor, BluMetric’s director of engineering.  “BluMetric is very well-positioned to help mining clients successfully and cost-effectively face such challenges relying on our specialized knowledge base in hydrology, hydrogeology, occupational health and safety, and compliance.”

BluMetric developed and has successfully employed this process at several other mine sites where a high-quality effluent was required. This system was custom designed for this client to overcome the influent and effluent conditions at this remote and climatically challenging site.

The client’s work program involves mining, crushing, washing, screening, and drying run-of-mine ore in a state-of-the-art facility.

In addition to the water treatment unit, BluMetric will provide comprehensive commissioning support and training for the operating team for most of the first season.
