Yesterday, Manitoba’s Rural Municipality of Dauphin unveiled the completion of Phase I of the Rural Water Pipelines Expansion, a $3,130,000 million investment in water infrastructure.
Work in Phase 1 was made possible through funding under the Canada-Manitoba New Building Canada Fund–Small Communities Fund and will enhance Dauphin’s ability to provide reliable water supply in an environmentally sustainable manner to residents for years to come.
“With Phase 1 of the pipelines project completed, almost 100 households in the Rural Municipality of Dauphin will now have access to quality potable water,” said Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities. “This important project in Manitoba, along with other investments that are being made across the country to support public infrastructure, are helping to build the Canada of the 21st Century and ensure a high quality of life for generations to come.”
Phase I of the Rural Water Pipelines project expands the existing G3 Water Cooperative regional public water system into the RM of Dauphin, providing 99 new household service connections and two pressure reducing stations. Within the RM of Dauphin, groundwater supplies vary from adequate, north of the Valley River, to extremely poor in the south. In the south, water quantity supply is limited, of poor quality and generally high in iron, manganese, and hardness. Prior to Phase I, there were no existing rural water pipelines in the RM of Dauphin, with the exception of the Eclipse and Lockville co-operatives that service a small portion of the RM.

RM of Dauphin ratepayers were in need of a steady, reliable, source of potable water, and we are thankful to now be able to offer that service to them with the help of the G3 Water Cooperative.”

Funding for Phase II of the rural water distribution system will be provided under the Clean Water Wastewater Fund (CWWF). The Government of Canada will provide $1,786,400, while both the Province of Manitoba and the RM of Dauphin will contribute $893,200, for total eligible costs of $3,572,800. It is estimated that Phase II will provide approximately 100 household service connections and three pressure reducing stations throughout the Rural Municipality of Dauphin.
