The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador announced a $665,000 investment in water system upgrades for the communities of Port Albert and Stoneville last week.
In Stoneville, $324,000 will go towards a new pump house and a new chlorination system.
“This is great news for the people of Stoneville as we have been running on one pump instead of two for some time,” said Stoneville Chairperson Vincent Hodder. “Having a new chlorination system will ensure the ongoing availability of safe, clean drinking water which will have a positive impact on the community.”
Port Albert, meanwhile, will receive $341,000, to be used to replace current piping with larger diameter water pipes, which will contribute to safer drinking water.
“The people of Port Albert have been dealing with intermittent contamination issues and poor water quality,” said Port Albert chairperson Winnie King. “This upgrade for our water system will alleviate these issues and provide residents with a clean and reliable source of water.”
These most recent investments into municipal water systems continue a recent trend in Newfoundland infrastructure spending. Water Canada recently covered provincial contributions to the Town of Wabana, and to the towns of Fortune, Grand Bank, Point May, and Lawn.
