RBC Announces Final 2010 Grant Recipients

Last week RBC announced the last wave of its 2010 RBC Blue Water Project Leadership Grant recipients. Seven organizations from Canada, the United States and Trinidad & Tobago will share over $1.2 million. RBC's funding will support a range of projects from wetland and shoreline restoration to water quality monitoring and sharing of sustainable water management practices in agricultural regions. Canada Abstains from UN Water Vote

Yesterday, the United Nations adopted a resolution proclaiming the Human Right to Safe Drinking Water and Sanitation. Presented by Bolivia and 33 other States, the resolution that would "entitle everyone to available, safe, acceptable, accessible and affordable water and sanitation" received 122 votes in favour with no votes against and 41 abstentions—including Canada. Growth Expected for UV Market: Report

The recent ratification of legislation favouring ultraviolet (UV) disinfection methods—in addition to other variables—bodes well for the market, says Frost & Sullivan. BioteQ to Build New Water Treatment Plant in China

Vancouver-based BioteQ Environmental Technologies, Inc., a company that treats industrial wastewater, will construct a third water treatment plant in China, in joint venture with Jiangxi Copper Company. The project will enable the mine site to maximize resource recovery and produce clean water. The design report for the plant, announced in March 2010, has been approved by the joint venture, and the project will proceed to construction in the third quarter of this year. FilterBoxx Signs Agreement with GE

Recognizing the importance of finding efficient and economical ways to recover heavy oil from the oil sands regions, GE and Calgary-based FilterBoxx Water & Environmental Corp. have teamed up to develop water treatment solutions. GE and FilterBoxx recently signed an agreement to develop integrated de-oiling and water treatment options for Alberta’s oil sands. Quebec City-based H2O Innovation Inc., a water treatment solutions company, has been awarded new contracts totaling $4.5 million. These contracts will see the company provide custom-built water treatment systems for municipal and industrial end-users, in the United States and Canada and, to a lesser extent, in Egypt. Victoria Awards US$4M Contract to Insituform

Insituform Technologies, Inc. has received a contract award for US$4 million to rehabilitate over 11,000 feet of drinking water pipelines in Victoria, British Columbia. Work on this project, which includes 12-inch and 20-inch diameter pipelines, is expected to be completed by early 2011.
