Richard Arena Gets $5.2M Revamp

Montreal's Maurice Richard Arena is to get a $5.2-million facelift starting in March and then be temporarily dedicated to short-track speed skaters training for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, reports Montreal's Gazette. The 47-year-old, 6,600-seat arena is to have its water treatment system upgraded, along with new refrigeration and heating systems. Funding for the work is to be split among the Quebec government ($2.6 million), the city of Montreal ($2.1 million) and Speed Skating Canada ($500,000). [...]

Funds A wastewater treatment plant in Cambridge, Ont. is getting a $21-million upgrade: the aim is to "dewater" the sludge held in its digesters. Meanwhile, Victoria, B.C. water pipes are getting a $10-million upgrade. The watermains, installed in 1927, will ensure quality drinking water and improved water pressure for firefighting. Barrie, Ont. is expanding its water and wastewater systems with three major infrastructure projects that include a $108-million surface water treatment plant and low lift pumping station, an $87-million water pollution control plant expansion, and a $23-million expansion of the city's biosolids storage [...]

H2O Innovation Secures Over $1.9 Million in Contracts

H2O Innovation has signed five new contracts, totaling $1.9 million. The municipality of St-Adolphe-d'Howard, Quebec, has signed on for a packaged nanofiltration treatment system including all pre-treatments. This plant will be using H2O's technology: NanH2Ofiltration. The company was awarded two other contracts for the design and manufacture of containerized treatment units. The first one will be used to treat an industrial effluent in Oceanside, California, and the second will be used to produce drinking water for a workers camp in Northern Quebec. Gatineau Boil Water Advisory: CBC Reports

At least 45,000 people in Gatineau are being asked to boil their water as a precautionary measure after a water main broke in the city's Gatineau district, reported CBC News today. The boil-water advisory covers a large part of the district, north of the railroad tracks, around Cheval Blanc Avenue, said City of Gatineau spokesman Pascal Laplante. It will remain in effect for at least a good part of the weekend while the water is tested for levels of E. coli bacteria.
