Haleon becomes first Canadian company to earn Global Water Stewardship certification

In a major milestone for sustainable manufacturing in Canada, Haleon, the global consumer health company behind household names such as Advil, Centrum, and Buckley’s, has secured Certified Core status under the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) Standard at its Montreal facility. This designation makes Haleon the first and only Canadian company to receive the globally recognized certification to date.

The AWS Standard is a comprehensive framework designed for major water users to understand and improve their water use and impacts while working collaboratively within local catchments. It encourages best practices across five key outcomes: good water governance, sustainable water balance, good water quality status, protection of important water-related areas, and access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) for all.

Haleon’s achievement is particularly timely, coinciding with the end of Earth Month—a period that emphasizes global environmental action—and comes as climate concerns remain high on public and political agendas.

The certification highlights Haleon’s leadership in environmental stewardship and supports its broader sustainability objectives. As outlined in its 2024 Responsible Business Report, the company’s environmental strategy focuses on reducing carbon emissions, adopting sustainable packaging, and sourcing trusted ingredients responsibly.

Securing AWS certification in Montreal is just one part of Haleon’s larger ambition to certify all of its manufacturing sites to the AWS Standard by 2025. Additionally, Haleon is working toward water neutrality at all its sites located in water-stressed regions by 2030—demonstrating a proactive approach to resource management amid growing global water challenges.

This latest accomplishment underscores Haleon’s commitment to making a positive impact not only on individual health but also on the planet’s well-being, setting a strong example for other manufacturers in the sector.
